J.J. Taylor was sensational in Centennial’s 70-29 victory over Chaminade

Corona Centennial kicked off the CIF Southern Section Pac-5 Division playoffs with an emphatic 70-29 thumping over Chaminade.  The Huskies dominated every aspect of play, led by senior running back J.J. Taylor’s seven touchdowns.

Centennial scored 21 points in each of the first three quarters and capped off the scoring with one final touchdown in the fourth quarter.  In the meantime, the Huskies held Chaminade to 14 and 15 points in the first and second quarter, respectively.

Taylor finished the game with 18 carries for 185 yards to accompany his seven scores.  Anthony Catalano completed 11-of-17 passes for 216 yards, one TD, and one interception.  Junior Troy Spencer Jr. was on the receiving end of two of Catalano’s passes, totaling 88 yards and a touchdown.

On the defensive side of the ball, linebackers Zach Brumbaugh accumulated a total of 10 tackles (5 solo, 5 assists).  Centennial’s defense also recorded four interceptions, two from Reggie Whitfield and one each from Kentrell Love and Jaylan ShawCamryn Bynum also recovered a fumble.

With this early playoff win, the Huskies advance to face Orange Lutheran in the quarterfinals on November 20.  Centennial currently ranks 3rd in the DigitalSports National Football Rankings and 2nd in California, right behind John Bosco.

The Braves, ranked 2nd in the nation, advanced through their first game, and many expect a Centennial vs Bosco final.  There is no guarantee as both teams still have two games left to win in one of the nation’s hardest division.
